Our approach

Independence is the outcome, not the starting point

Young people are placed with Total Care when it has been assessed that they need to develop independence skills and become increasingly self-reliant. That is a process, not a switch, and it looks different for every young person we house.

Some arrive after a family or foster placement has broken down. Some have experienced homelessness. Some have come into the country unaccompanied and are learning an unfamiliar system while also learning to cook, budget and hold down a college place.

What they have in common is that they need somewhere stable to live and someone who knows them well enough to notice when something changes. Everything else we do sits underneath that.

What we provide

Four things every placement includes

A home, not a unit

Properties in ordinary residential streets, close to shops, transport, colleges and work. Furnished, maintained and kept to a standard we would accept ourselves.

Consistent support

Support workers who know the young person, with hours matched to their assessed need rather than a fixed template.

Independence skills

Practical work on budgeting, cooking, health, education, employment and navigating services — the things that decide whether a move-on succeeds.

Clear reporting

Local authorities get timely, accurate updates on their young people. Our systems exist so that placement teams are never chasing us for information.

Technology

Data-driven, in the useful sense

Our systems and processes are streamlined and cloud-based, using a range of tools to achieve high efficiency within the supported living space.

In practice that means referrals get a decision quickly, records are where they should be when someone asks for them, and support workers spend their time with young people instead of with paperwork.

It also means the information we hold about young people is held carefully. We work to the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and we are Cyber Essentials certified through the IASME Consortium.
